Origin Story
When I was 17, I took a photography class in high school. My interest and passion in photography blossomed during this class, so much so that I decided to create an Instagram account dedicated to my photography, titled @deisvantagepoint.
I knew I wanted my username to be different from the rest, and I wanted it to have some tie to an element of photography, like angles and points of view. Through these requirements, I crafted the title Dei’s Vantage Point.
However, Dei’s Vantage Point did not last very long. In fact, I think it was only @deisvantagepoint for about 2 months. Some people made fun of me for it, but even though I liked the name, I decided to change it.
And I’m glad I did. I soon changed the Instagram username to @deibartphoto. My name is Deirdre Barton, so I shortened it to DeiBart. My friends and family have called me Dei as long as I can remember, so the emotional connection I have with being called Dei was a special element I could include.
In Her Growth Era
The early stages of my photography account were pretty much just photos of my friends. I was SO proud of these photos, and honestly I still am. I’m a significantly better photographer now, but I’m proud of the passion, effort, and creativity I put into these images. Just for fun, here's a few of them.
It's giving Growth
Slowly but surely I began to get more photography gigs. I had such a blast doing them and truly found a love for photography doing so. Even though I've gone through a few waves of inactivity, I’ve remained pretty consistent in business. I’m super grateful to all of the people in my life who have supported me in my journey to become an established photographer!
Fall 2022 through Winter 2023
During this time period, my business grew more than I honestly thought it would at that time in my life. So much so that I started to see revenue amounts that were promising enough to me that I could really make this dream of mine work out.
Because I still live in my hometown that’s pretty small, I know a lot of people from a lot of different things. And luckily a lot of them have given me a shot with photography.
During the last year, I experimented with SO many types of photography. I’ll name a few:
- Senior photos
- Engagements
- High school dances
- Weddings
- Families
- LDS Missionaries
- Team photos
- Sports photography
- Commercial photography
It’s been a dream to get to try out all of these photography services. It’s seriously been the best year because of that!
But since I loved doing all of these photography services so much, I felt like I needed to make DeiBart Photo representative of that. How would I even begin to do that, though?
A Crisis I Needed to Have
This semester I enrolled in a social media branding course. Through this class I’ve learned how to build a reputable brand from scratch. I was given the opportunity to use DeiBart Photo as my brand, and I’m so glad I did.
I never thought I would feel the need to change my business name, but I felt like DeiBart Photo wasn’t professional enough for the types of photography I was interested in.
So after MULTIPLE weeks of trying to come up with a brand name and getting help and inspiration from my professor, I decided on The Photo Collective.
Awesome, Why?
The Photo Collective is the new business name because the name is exactly what my business is- a collective of photos. Collectives are inclusive, but are inclusive to whatever you want them to be. I love that aspect of the term because I'm just a girl, so I change my mind a lot.
Services I Offer
After almost a year of contemplating, I can finally say I've finalized the services I offer.
These are the kind of photos that make me the happiest, and the kind of photos I feel like I can absolutely slay applying my modern, classy, and timeless aesthetic to.
Here is the official list of services that The Photo Collective offers:
- Wedding Day
- Families
- Individuals (senior pics, LDS mission, or just for fun)
- Team Photography
Connect With the Collective
If you're someone who prioritizes authentic, original, and natural photos, welcome to The Collective.
So whether it be that your family is growing up, you're tying the knot, it's about time you're gonna graduate, or know a team that needs aesthetic photos, you've found your place.
