Family Photos During Thanksgiving?
Family photos are probably the last thing on your mind when you think about Thanksgiving time because you're super busy prepping for the holiday, finishing things up at work or school, and are trying to stay on top of everything.
It probably sounds counterintuitive to schedule family photos during the Thanksgiving holiday, but it's honestly a great time to take them. Here's why:
Convenience: Your Family is Already Together!
Based on my experience, I think that trying to get everyone's schedule coordinated is the hardest part about family photos. Even more than figuring out what to wear!
But since all of your people will be together for the holiday, what better time than then to schedule photos? Think about how much easier your future will be too if you make family photos a Thanksgiving tradition. Getting family photos around the holidays can be tight financially if you go with the wrong photographer, so make sure you find a photographer that works in your budget. I don't see rates more affordable than mine here in Utah, and rumor has it I might be doing a holiday sale.
Lighting: The Winter Sun is Your Skin Tone's BFF
The winter sunlight is actually your best friend because it's not as harsh as the summer sunlight. Since the sun is softer, it opens a lot more opportunities for time to take your family photos. You've got your people together AND you can get the photos done when it works for you guys during the day? I think yes!
The softer lighting highlights colors in the most beautiful way. Unlike harsh sunlight, soft sunlight doesn't intensify any colors. This makes it super easy to figure out your family's outfits too. Think about how beautiful some winter family photos would be in the beautiful southern Utah red rocks?!
Ease: Everyone's Schedules are Open!
Now that you've established that everyone will be available, don't wait to contact your photographer! The Thanksgiving holiday is actually a pretty popular time to take family photos, so it's best you don't wait.
However, the bright side to this being a holiday is that your photographer is likely more available during the break too! Having everyone's schedules more open will make the process a lot easier - trust me!
I hope that this post helped you understand that Thanksgiving is one of the best times of year to book family photos. Everyone's together, the lighting is softer, and schedules are less busy than normal! Don't forget to take advantage of the stunning southern Utah scenery when you take your family photos.
As always, message me for any questions, ideas, or inquiries. I'm looking forward to creating together!
